Prevalence of diabetes is increasing. Some are speaking of epidemic of diabetes who started in the USA and who is now extending in Europe. Nevertheless, our knowledge of this disease is better, we can diagnose earlier and than prevent the complications of diabetes. The general practitioner can play a leading part in the field of information, of detecting, of follow-up and of treatment of the diabetic patient. Intensify the collaboration between the general practitioner and the specialist is essential to create a synergy and to improve the quality of the information and the follow-up of this disease.
