During the period 1973-1989, 21 women suffering from germ cell tumors were treated. On account of the improved prognosis in patients with germ cell tumors, the fertility was investigated retrospectively. In ten out of 21 patients, fertility was "anatomically" preserved. The patients received either chemotherapy or irradiation. A few of the patients received both types of therapy. Normal pregnancies and normal deliveries of healthy children were observed among patients treated by irradiation and also chemotherapy. When ever possible, fertility should be preserved by employing conservative procedures at the primary operation in women suffering from germ cell tumors.
