[Auriculotemporal syndrome as a consequence of parotidectomy].

Postoperative follow-up was carried out on 121 patients previously operated for pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid glands. The aim of this study was to establish the incidence of auriculotemporal syndrome (ATS) according to:a. patients' complaints (i.e. subjective incidence), and b. Minor test findings (i.e. objective incidence). The influence of the surgical extent (parotidectomy) on ATS incidence was also assessed. It was found that the objective incidence of ATS was 31.4%, and the subjective incidence only 13.2%. It was also established that both subjective and objective incidences of ATS were higher after total than after partial parotidectomy.
