Abstract
This article is intended to give a practical overview of the management of the patient with a tracheostomy in the community. It will describe the difference between temporary tracheostomy and laryngectomy, and outline the basic practical management of each, covering tube care and changing, humidification and suction. Sources of equipment and further information will be identified.
