Various pathogenic conditions including endocrine, inflammatory, gastrointestinal and hematological disorders, medication, and immobilization cause secondary osteoporosis. Secondary osteoporosis occurs not only in postmenopausal women but also in premenopausal women and men. Therefore, the fractures have a great impact on their social lives. Serial articles regarding secondary osteoporosis will appear in this journal, especially focused on glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis and osteoporosis associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
