A total number of 53 foodborne botulism cases were registered in Poland in 2004 (incidence rate 0.14 per 100 000 population), in rural areas--32 cases (incidence 0.22) and in urban areas--21 cases (incidence 0.09). There were 29 sporadic cases, 6 outbreaks of two persons, and two outbreaks involving three and nine people. Meat products (especially home made) were the main vehicle of botulin toxin. Two deaths from foodborne botulism were registered.
