Canadian perspectives in glaucoma management: the role of central corneal thickness.

BACKGROUND

To propose consensus working recommendations for the role of central corneal thickness in the management of open-angle glaucoma.

METHODS

This work is based on evidence from a review of the glaucoma literature, a Canadian consensus development workshop, and the personal clinical experience of the participating Canadian ophthalmologists.

RESULTS

Guidelines were developed to provide eye care practitioners and their patients with support in the decision-making process for management of glaucoma or those at risk for developing glaucoma.

INTERPRETATION

Further studies will be helpful in understanding the role of central corneal thickness in glaucoma management, and these guidelines will need to be revised periodically as new information becomes available.
