[Acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP)--case report].

OBJECTIVE

Description of case report and summary of the knowledge about acute fatty liver of pregnancy.

DESIGN

SETTING

Department of Obstretrics and Gynecology Most.

SUBJECT

The case of 30-year-old woman primigravida with acute fatty liver in early postpartum period. The diagnosis of AFLP was initially suggested by the typical history of prodromal as malaise, anorexia and polydypsia before the delivery and the rapid onset of deeply jaundice developed with elevated bilirubin and liver enzymes in early postpartum period.

CONCLUSION

Acute fatty liver of pregnancy is a rare, potentional fatal disease that occurs in third trimester or early postpartum period. It is thought to be caused by a disordered metabolism of fatty acids by mitochondria in the fetus, caused by deficiency in the long-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase.
