This study assessed the impact on patient satisfaction of second-year family practice residents participating in a one-month gynecology rotation at a university-owned satellite ambulatory care facility. Its purpose was to examine whether residents can be incorporated into university-operated satellite health centers for patient care and resident education without decreasing patient satisfaction. With the exception of one item on the patient satisfaction questionnaire, results showed no significant difference in patient satisfaction ratings between one family practice faculty physician and five family practice residents. This finding supports increased efforts to incorporate residents into academic ambulatory care satellites in limited direct patient care roles similar to those described in this report.
