A brief review of the literature of digit sucking is followed by the report of a study of 68 treated Class II division 1 malocclusions, designed to attempt to clarify the significance of digit sucking in their aetiology. Case histories of two of the patients from the study are briefly discussed to illustrate the range of changes seen.
