Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by inflammatory synovitis, erosive arthritis and joint destruction. Recent evidence indicates that inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha or IL-6 plays a pathological role in joint destruction and osteoporosis and that anti-cytokine therapy or anti-RANKL antibody provides significant protection against the process.
