Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by inflammatory synovitis, erosive arthritis and joint destruction. Recent evidence indicates that inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alphaor IL-6 plays a pathological role in joint destruction and osteoporosis and that anti-cytokine therapy provides significant protection against the process. In this article, we described our findings that TNF-alphablocking therapy decreased urinary crosslinked N-telopeptide of type I collagen and increased serum bone alkaline phosphatase in RA patients.
