A New Zealand neonatal service.

Advances in neonatal technology and greater expertise in neonatal intensive care have significantly reduced neonatal mortality in recent years. The esoteric environment which has contributed to this achievement has been daunting to most parents, and often seriously undermining of their confidence at a time when more normal circumstances would still require that it be encouraged. The institution of the Neonatal Home Care service at National Women's Hospital has done much to resolve this crisis of confidence by easing the transition from hospital to home with its provision of specialised nursing care, advice and education.
