It is proved by survey results and increasing incidence of HIV infections that general sexual behaviour did not change appreciably, although the knowledge about AIDS was distinctly improved by educational campaigns. Preventive strategies to cause changes in behaviour must be based on empirical suppositions, and must be developed in consideration of the theories. Significant models for predicting behaviour and changing attitudes are presented, and several theoretical conclusions are drawn with reference to AIDS prevention. Recommendations are made to enhance the effects of preventive strategies, and suggestions are given for a social reorientation to promote on individual behaviour change.
