Pain is to be registered in the clinical setting. As a subjective phenomenon, pain can only be assessed, not measured exactly. In addition to being an important outcome variable, registration of pain can be used as an aid in diagnosis. A questionnaire has been worked out for evaluation of pain in lumbagosciatica, based upon findings from patients with radicular leg pain. The method is easy to use, and gives a three-dimensional picture of localization, quality, intensity and variability of the pain.
