Limbic epilepsy secondary to intraseptal injection of ouabain induces a suppresion of paradoxical sleep, for a duration of 10 to 30 hours, followed by progressive recuperation of paradoxical sleep without any rebound phenomenon. A reappearance of a normal electrical activity is necessary for a rapid restoration of paradoxical sleep. When septal or hippocamp-geniculate spikes persist the recovery is slower and smaller.
