Abstract

OBJECTIVES

The aim of this study is to survey parental report of screening signs of auditory processing problem in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) children and its association with gender and co-morbidity with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and separation anxiety (SAD).

METHODS

104 children and adolescents referrals to the child and adolescent psychiatry clinic were interviewed. The auditory processing problem checklist asked parents to indicate their child's reaction to sounds. It screens signs of two aspects of auditory processing problem including hypersensitivity to sounds (HES) (or auditory defensiveness) and hyposensitivity to sound (HOS) (under-registers).

RESULTS

The mean age of the children was 8.5 (SD=1.8). Children with ODD had significantly higher HES, HOS and the whole checklist mean scores. Subtypes of ADHD were not associated with the auditory processing problems.

CONCLUSIONS

ADHD children with ODD are likely to be at a significant risk for manifesting both of the auditory processing problem including defensiveness and auditory hyposensitivity to sounds. Auditory processing problems do not differentiate different subtypes of ADHD.

目的

本研究旨在调查家长报告的注意缺陷多动障碍(ADHD)儿童听觉处理问题的筛查迹象,及其与性别、对立违抗障碍(ODD)共病和分离焦虑(SAD)的关联。

方法

对转介至儿童及青少年精神科诊所的104名儿童和青少年进行了访谈。听觉处理问题检查表要求家长指出孩子对声音的反应。它筛查听觉处理问题两个方面的迹象,包括对声音过敏(HES)(或听觉防御)和对声音反应不足(HOS)(登记不足)。

结果

儿童的平均年龄为8.5岁(标准差=1.8)。患有ODD的儿童在HES、HOS和整个检查表平均得分上显著更高。ADHD的亚型与听觉处理问题无关。

结论

患有ODD的ADHD儿童很可能面临显著风险,表现出包括防御和对声音听觉反应不足在内的两种听觉处理问题。听觉处理问题无法区分ADHD的不同亚型。
