Rapidly developing mental confusion and concomitant physical deterioration are reported as presenting symptoms in a case of giant cell arteritis (GCA). Systemic glucocorticoid therapy was followed by partial remission of neuropsychiatric symptoms and complete physical recovery. GCA should be considered as a cause of treatable dementia in the elderly. Temporal artery biopsy is recommended in dement elderly persons with elevated ESR of unknown cause.
据报道，在一例巨细胞动脉炎（GCA）病例中，快速发展的精神错乱和随之而来的身体衰退是主要症状。全身糖皮质激素治疗后，神经精神症状部分缓解，身体完全恢复。GCA应被视为老年人可治疗性痴呆的一个病因。对于病因不明且血沉升高的老年痴呆患者，建议进行颞动脉活检。
