Inspite of a higher prevalence of ulcerative colitis complications of Crohn's disease make a surgical intervention more often necessary. Emergent operations of ulcerative colitis confront with minimal surgery of Crohn's disease. Today the basic treatment of both diseases is conservative; an elective operation at the right moment may reduce on the other hand the number of emergency cases.
