Orthoproposomorphic craniofacial surgery started with the popularizing of the Le Fort III type osteotomy for the correction of Morbus Crouzon in 1967. Today, after more than two decades, the principles of craniomaxillofacial surgery are well established. Many pioneering problems are solved and constant results are being obtained. Not only facial recontouring, but also cranial sculpturing became possible and the ideal time of surgery for the faciocraniostenoses was transferred to the preschool age. The authors present a review of the literature on the chronology and the techniques in the surgical correction of Morbus Crouzon.
