Abstract
THE COMPONENTS AND PROPERTIES OF A PHOSPHOENOLPYRUVATE
glucose phosphotransferase system are reviewed, along with the evidence implicating this system in sugar transport across bacterial membranes. Some possible physiological implications of sugar transport mediated by the phosphotransferase system are also considered.
