Insuring the quality of practice in our work environments is a concern shared by nurse managers and staff members alike. As in other areas of practice, improving quality involves changing practice to overcome problems of effectiveness and efficiency. In the following review article, change is defined, its salient characteristics are discussed, and its various models are described.
