[Treatment planning in skeletally fixed laterognathism--an interdisciplinary task].

To achieve favourable aesthetic and functional results in treatment of skeletal facial asymmetry, a proper morphologic diagnosis based upon detailed information is essential for combined orthodontic and surgical treatment planning. In seven cases it could be shown that CT-scans and three-dimensional CT-surface reconstructions are far more efficient than conventional X-ray techniques in analysing the individual pattern. An excellent possibility of morphologic classification is offered in combination with the skeletal classification of head X-rays. The importance of a morphologically orientated treatment plan is emphasized by selected cases. Therefore various methods of operation in maxillofacial surgery can be planned better in advance and in orthodontics, with regard to the complexity of the case, it presents a better coordination of timing in the use of fixed and functional appliances.
