The author proposes a surgical technique for pterygium, which involves excision of the latter from apex to base, removal of a conjunctival growth area by wrapping it with the remainder above the pterygial body towards the interior angle of the eyelids, capture of the musculus rectus internus on a traction suture for thorough evacuation of the interior angle of the eyelids from the pterygium and for convenient scleral graft fixation, and closure of a formed conjunctival defect with an Ufaplant ophthalmological graft, by making additional cuts upon its surface for vascularization. A total of 87 patients with recurrent pterygium were operated on, by applying the proposed technique. High functional and cosmetic results were achieved in all cases; no recurrences were observed.
