Common problems in waste gas management.

This article is the sixth in a series designed to help nurse anesthetists appreciate the clinical applications of equipment and monitoring systems. A brief overview of waste gas management is presented, as well as a description of the anesthesia machine's waste gas interface valve, how it is designed to function, clinical problems that have led to incidents, types of vacuum systems, and how to test and verify the functioning of the system before use.
