The intent of this analysis, this placing of caring and not caring side by side to supportive and non-supportive contexts is to make more visible the policy implications for the social value of caring and to suggest a grounding for feminist social philosophy in the practical activities of carework. It is critical that we make more visible the expectations and indictments of women in their socially constructed roles of menders and tenders.
