The couple presented in this article contributed significantly to the spreading of psychoanalysis in Switzerland, albeit mainly due to Emil O. who established the Swiss Society for Psychoanalysis in 1919 and was its head up to its split in 1928. Less known is the influence of his Lithuanian Jewish wife Mira who had been an important intellectual partner for him. She personally analyzed him before sending him to Freud (who became her own analyst in 1923), she supported him in his career and was a well-respected analyst in her own right. The Oberholzers had a large circle of colleagues and friends, first in Zürich, and then after their emigration (in 1938) in New York. Here they were involved in the founding of the Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine.
