The influence of triethylcholine (TEC) on isolated autonomic transmission has been investigated in some isolated preparations. The guinea-pig hypogastric nerve-vas deferens-urinary bladder preparation for studying both cholinergic and adrenergic transmission simultaneously is described. Incubation with TEC caused impairment of cholinergic transmission but failed to inhibit adrenergic transmission. Employing TEC as a pharmacological tool, no evidence for a cholinergic link could be obtained in adrenergic transmission in the isolated vas deferens and rabbit ileum preparations.
