Abstract

It is well known that there exists a daily rhythm in the mitotic count in the epidermis of the mouse. It has also been emphasized that the mitotic rate cannot be estimated correctly from the mitotic count unless the mitotic duration is constant.In this paper it is shown that applications of 3-methylcholanthrene to the skin cause great variations in the mitotic duration of the epidermal cells. The Colcemid technique is used to study the mitotic duration in the untreated epidermis of hairless mice during a 24-hour interval, and it is shown that the diurnal and nocturnal variations in the mitotic count are the effect mainly of variations in the mitotic duration and not of variations in the mitotic rate.

众所周知,老鼠表皮的有丝分裂计数存在日常节律。也有人强调,除非有丝分裂持续时间保持不变,否则不能正确地从有丝分裂计数中估计有丝分裂率。本文表明,应用 3-甲基胆蒽会导致表皮细胞的有丝分裂持续时间发生巨大变化。本文采用秋水仙素技术研究无毛小鼠未处理的表皮在 24 小时内的有丝分裂持续时间,结果表明,有丝分裂计数的昼夜变化主要是有丝分裂持续时间的变化所致,而不是有丝分裂率的变化所致。
