A diagnosis of psychogenic sterility implies the absence of any organic causes of sterility, but care must be taken not to confuse psychology with statistics. The fact that pregnancy is a statistical probability does not rule out the possibility of a psychogenic cause. In some cases, a psychological aspect is highly probable (sexual problems, disturbances of the cycle of central origin) it should be realised that in all cases, the management of a sterile couple involves both scientific expertise and human contact, otherwise there is a risk of possible causing psychogenic--and even iatrogenic--sterility.
心因性不育的诊断意味着不存在任何器质性不育原因，但必须注意不要将心理学与统计学相混淆。怀孕是一种统计学上的可能性这一事实并不排除心因性原因的可能性。在某些情况下，心理因素极有可能存在（性问题、中枢性周期紊乱），应该认识到，在所有情况下，对不育夫妇的治疗都需要科学专业知识和人际交流，否则有可能导致心因性——甚至医源性——不育。
