Progress in and problems of combatting human echinococcosis in Bulgaria are reviewed. It is emphasized that due to complex measures of the disease control started in 1960 considerable progress has been made in decreasing the morbidity and mortality rate of the population and animals. Along with the obvious progress there are also drawbacks and problems in the work performed. However, it is noteworthy that in Bulgaria there are all the necessary conditions for reducing the echinococcosis morbidity rate to just sporadic cases.
