The unsolved problems of antioxidant pharmacology are analyzed. There are presented the data on the pathological states the involvement in which of free radical processes has been proved and the possibility of using antioxidants for correction of such states in discussed. The main types of the preparations inhibiting free radical oxidation are described. The importance of the investigation of such parameters as the antioxidative and antiradical activity is emphasized. Great attention is concentrated on the clinicopharmacological aspects of the application of antioxidants, in particular, in gerontology. The importance of the further research of antioxidants is shown.
