During the last decade a considerable amount of research has been dedicated to von Willebrand factor. In the first part of this article recent data on primary structure of von Willebrand factor and biosynthesis of von Willebrand factor multimers are presented. The second part focuses on the role of von Willebrand factor in hemostasis.
