The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C(7)H(10)N)(2)[PtCl(6)], contains one independent protonated 2,6-dimethyl-pyridinium cation and half of a centrosymmetric PtCl(6) anion. The Pt atom has an octa-hedral coordination. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds result in the formation of a supra-molecular structure. There is a π-π contact between the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distance = 4.235 (1) Å].
