Long used as a public health tool for controlling sexually transmitted diseases, partner notification has been underutilized against HIV infection. Why? Issues of confidentiality, cost-effectiveness, and clinical benefit are involved. The validity of these concerns is addressed in a review of recent experience in Colorado and elsewhere.
