New techniques and instrumentation within the field of laparoscopic surgery have resulted in an increase in both the number and types of procedures performed. Many advances, such as the linear cutting stapler and automatic clip applier, are now commonplace and used in almost every laparoscopic case. However, these new devices and procedures have also led to previously unseen complications.
