Trends in disability pensions in Norway were studied during the period 1977-87 on the basis of the official statistics. During this period, men and women alike experienced increased risk of disability. The risk was highest for women aged 30-39 years, 103%. In 1986/87 the cumulative incidence for a disability pension up to age 67 was 59% for women and 60% for men. The increase was strongest for musculo-skeletal disorders, followed by psychiatric disorders and injuries.
