The infant mortality rate in agricultural districts of the Uzbek SSR is shown to be related to high mortality rates in the early neonatal and postnatal periods. Among the causes of death the leading role was played by infectious-parasitic disease (29.8%), respiratory disease (21.3%), and perinatal pathology (17.1%). Risk factors influencing the infant mortality rate have been determined. They include socio-hygienic++, medico-organizational, and biological factors. A rating prognosis table for individual estimation of death risks in infants of the first year of life has been compiled, and steps to reduce infant mortality have been planned.
