Gated magnetic resonance imaging of metastatic intracardiac malignant fibrous histiocytoma.

We report a patient with right intraventricular metastatic sarcoma who underwent gated magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. The study provided good images of the tumor, though definition was degraded by signal from slow flowing blood. The demonstration of cardiac anatomy was excellent, and this was helpful in planning subsequent radiotherapy. We conclude that gated MR imaging is a valuable supplement to two-dimensional echocardiography in the diagnosis and management of cardiac metastases. This case also illustrates that extensive intracardiac disease can be present in the absence of marked clinical symptoms.
