During the last 13 years, the Kaohsiung Medical College Hospital has treated a total of nine patients with nephroblastoma (Wilms' tumor). Among them, six were male and three were female. The age of the patients ranged from 7 months to 11 years old with an average of 3.25 years. 88.9 percent of the patients complained of abdominal mass. However, the initial symptom was gross hematuria in 33.3% of the patients. Seven out of the nine patients underwent simple nephrectomy while the remaining two were treated with the more conservative open biopsy. All patients died within three years of initial treatment except two, who never came back for follow-up treatment and whom we were unable to trace to determine whether they had survived. Nevertheless, the combination of surgery and postoperative chemotherapy helped to prolong the life of patients with Wilms' tumors.
在过去的13年里，高雄医学院附设医院共收治了9例肾母细胞瘤（威尔姆斯瘤）患者。其中，男性6例，女性3例。患者年龄从7个月至11岁不等，平均年龄为3.25岁。88.9%的患者主诉有腹部肿块。然而，33.3%的患者最初症状为肉眼血尿。9例患者中有7例行单纯肾切除术，其余2例接受了更为保守的开放性活检。除2例患者外，所有患者在初始治疗后3年内死亡，这2例患者未回来接受后续治疗，我们也无法追踪以确定他们是否存活。尽管如此，手术与术后化疗相结合有助于延长威尔姆斯瘤患者的生命。
