Abstract

A mutant of Staphylococcus aureus resistant to pefloxacin was selected after combination therapy using pefloxacin and gentamicin. This phenomenon is probably due to impaired diffusion of gentamicin into the paravertebral abscess. This led to a monotherapy, in situ, unable to prevent the selection of mutant.
