This study investigates whether gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), saliva, and plasma levels of interleukin-33 (IL-33) can differentiate individuals with chronic periodontitis from individuals with healthy periodontium.
GCF, whole saliva, and plasma samples together with full-mouth clinical periodontal recordings were obtained from 32 otherwise healthy, non-smoker chronic periodontitis individuals and 25 systemically and periodontally healthy, non-smoker individuals. IL-33 levels in the biofluid samples were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Data were tested statistically by Mann-Whitney U test.
The GCF concentrations of IL-33 were significantly lower in chronic periodontitis individuals than in healthy individuals (P <0.0001), whereas the total amounts in GCF samples were similar (P >0.05). The salivary and plasma contrations of IL-33 were indifferent in the two study groups (P >0.05).
According to the present findings, the GCF, saliva or plasma levels of IL-33 could not differentiate chronic periodontitis individuals and periodontally healthy individuals. Larger-scale intervention studies may better clarify this issue.
本研究旨在探讨龈沟液(GCF)、唾液和血浆白介素-33(IL-33)水平是否可区分慢性牙周炎患者与牙周健康个体。
从 32 名无吸烟史的慢性牙周炎患者和 25 名无吸烟史、系统和牙周健康的个体中采集 GCF、全唾液和血浆样本,并进行全口临床牙周记录。采用酶联免疫吸附试验测定生物流体样本中的 IL-33 水平。数据采用曼-惠特尼 U 检验进行统计学检验。
慢性牙周炎患者的 GCF 中 IL-33 浓度显著低于牙周健康个体(P<0.0001),而 GCF 样本中的总量相似(P>0.05)。两组研究对象的唾液和血浆中 IL-33 浓度无差异(P>0.05)。
根据本研究结果,GCF、唾液或血浆中的 IL-33 水平不能区分慢性牙周炎患者和牙周健康个体。更大规模的干预研究可能会更好地阐明这个问题。
