Chemotherapy for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck: an overview.

Chemotherapy is being utilized to treat patients with recurrent tumors and advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. Current treatment modalities utilized include intra-arterial chemotherapy, simultaneous and sequential chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Each of these modes of treatment, as well as pharmacology of squamous cell-active chemotherapeutic agents, will be addressed in this review.
