[Additional contribution to the epidemiology of fractures of the proximal end of the femur in the elderly (1965-1985)].

The seasonal incidence of hip fractures was studied in the Department of Orthopaedics of the University of Siena in a 22 year period (1965-1985). The fracture incidence rate per 100,000 individuals in the population at risk was calculated. The incidence rate of fracture increased significantly in women during the period studied, whereas there was no significant increase in men.
