Different types of anomalies of the vertebral arteries are described on the basis of experience in 611 operations on these vessels. The authors emphasize the clinical importance of clamping and compression, as well as anomalous origin and entry of the vertebral arteries into the bone canal. The authors' experience allows them to believe that congenital anomalies and pathological tortousness of the carotid and vertebral arteries play an important role in the etiopathogenesis of cerebral circulatory disorders both in children and in adults.
