Thromboembolic diseases include atrial fibrillation, venous thromboembolism and acute coronary syndrome. The incidence and prevalence of these diseases are high and show an increasing trend over the years. There are differences according to age, gender, ethnicity and other factors. Hypertension, diabetes and metabolic syndrome have been proven to be key risk factors for these diseases, which cause high morbidity and mortality. Epidemiological studies have shown the changing demographics of thromboembolic diseases and have highlighted their serious personal, social, economic and global health consequences, demonstrating the importance of further work on prevention, early diagnosis and improved treatment.
