In order to achieve a radical excision of laryngeal cancer with preservation of its functions, the authors devised an operative procedure in which the defects of the larynx, oral pharynx, laryngeal pharynx and/or cervical esophagus were repaired with sternohyoid muscle and fascia. Since May 1981, this operation has been done on 52 patients with satisfactory results. The operative procedure and clinical materials are reported in this paper. This operation is simple, postoperative complications are rare, and it warrants further clinical trial.
