In 85 healthy men aged 18-42 years smoking 15-25 cigarettes daily for 2-25 years and in 49 men aged 17-50 years who never smoked (control group) the T-cell count and cutaneous responses to booster antigens (tuberculin and distreptase) were studied. The obtained results confirmed a suppressing effect of cigarette smoke during long-term exposure to this smoke on human cell-mediated immunity.
