To evaluate the efficacy of endovenous microwave ablation (EMA) in treatment of varicose veins (VVS).
The patients were randomly divided into EMA and high ligation and stripping (HLS) groups. Clinical outcomes and complications were assessed at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months after surgery, and the effect on quality of life was also assessed using the Aberdeen Varicose Vein Questionnaire (AVVQ) and Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS) respectively.
EMA occluded VVS completely, with a shorter operative time, less bleeding and smaller incisions than the HLS procedure. In the EMA group, skin burns were found on 11 limbs (10.2%); sensory alteration and ecchymosis were less; and the recurrence rate of VVS was relatively lower compared with the HLS group. Both groups had significant improvement in VCSS and disease-specific quality of life (AVVQ) postoperatively. There was no significant difference in AVVQ and VCSS scores between the groups.
EMA is an effective new technique for the treatment of VVS, and had a more satisfactory clinical outcome than HLS in the short term.

患者随机分为 EMA 和高位结扎剥脱术（HLS）组。术后 1、3、6、12 和 24 个月评估临床疗效和并发症，分别采用阿伯丁静脉曲张问卷（AVVQ）和静脉临床严重程度评分（VCSS）评估对生活质量的影响。
EMA 完全闭塞 VVS，与 HLS 相比，手术时间更短，出血更少，切口更小。在 EMA 组，11 条肢体（10.2%）出现皮肤烧伤；感觉改变和瘀斑较少；VVS 的复发率也低于 HLS 组。两组术后 VCSS 和疾病特异性生活质量（AVVQ）均显著改善。两组间 AVVQ 和 VCSS 评分无显著差异。
EMA 是治疗 VVS 的一种有效新技术，与 HLS 相比，在短期内具有更满意的临床效果。
