The percentage of general dental practitioners is very common in India, so the purpose of this study was to assess attitude of general dental practitioners toward root canal treatment (RCT) procedures.
In a cross-sectional study, 178 dentists (96 males and 82 females) were surveyed using a selfadministered, structured questionnaire pretested through a pilot survey. The questionnaire collected information regarding RCT procedures among participants. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 15. Frequency and percentage distributions were calculated.
In the present study most of the participants, i.e. 86.4% reported that they perform (RCT) procedures in posterior teeth. Isolation is mainly done with cotton rolls only (74.6%) and very few are using rubber dam in their practice (3.2%). Radiographs were not taken after every step in most of the cases. Rotary instruments were used in less number of cases and K-files were the most popular instruments (66.2%). Also single sitting RCT was not commonly seen.
This study indicates that most of the general dental practitioners' do not comply with quality standards guidelines such as use of rubber dam as isolation. So dentist should update their knowledge and practices with current techniques and materials through CDE programs.
普通牙科医生在印度占比非常普遍，因此本研究的目的是评估普通牙科医生对根管治疗（RCT）程序的态度。
在一项横断面研究中，通过一项预试验的试点调查对178名牙医（96名男性和82名女性）进行了自我管理的结构化问卷调查。该问卷收集了参与者中关于RCT程序的信息。使用SPSS 15版对数据进行分析。计算频率和百分比分布。
在本研究中，大多数参与者，即86.4%报告他们在后牙进行（RCT）程序。隔离主要仅使用棉卷（74.6%），很少有人在实践中使用橡皮障（3.2%）。在大多数情况下，每一步之后都不拍摄X线片。使用旋转器械的情况较少，K锉是最常用的器械（66.2%）。单次就诊的RCT也不常见。
本研究表明，大多数普通牙科医生不符合质量标准指南，如使用橡皮障进行隔离。因此，牙医应通过继续牙科教育（CDE）项目，用当前的技术和材料更新他们的知识和实践。
